WHAT TO EXPECT DURING BOTOX COSMETIC® TREATMENT?

Before the botox treatment can begin, the area about to be treated on will be first cleaned and prepped. Depending on the location of the injection, we may use a topical aesthetic cream to numb the area. The botox injection involves the use of a very fine needle to inject the solution into the targeted muscle.

The injection only takes a few seconds and you may feel a slight pinch. After the injection, some patients may experience mild swelling or bruising within the treated area. These types of side effects are usually temporary and should go away within a few hours to a few days.

RESULTS AND AFTERCARE

With Botox treatments it can take a number of days to see the full effects of the treatment, but most patients notice a significant change and improvement in the appearance of wrinkles within a week. Typically botox treatments last anywhere between three to four months, but some patients can experience longer lasting results with repeated treatments over time.

To maintain the best results of botox, patients should consider the following aftercare tips:

Avoid touching treated areas: To minimize dislodging the botox, patients are advised in touching or rubbing the treated area for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

Avoid exercise: For at least 24 hours patients are advised to avoid any strenuous physical activity.

Avoid alcohol: Patients should avoid huge quantities of alcohol for a 24 hour period after the botox procedure.

Use Ice Packs: To reduce swelling or bruising, patients can apply ice packs to the treated area for 10-15 minutes at a time, several times a day.

What treatments is Botox used for?
Botox procedures are generally used to treat wrinkles and fine lines on the face, including frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines.
How long does Botox last after treatment?
How long botox lasts depends on the individual and the specific treatment being used. Typically most patients can expect the botox effects to last for several months, around 3-6 months to be precise.
What age should you start Botox?
There is no specific age as this depends on the patients skin type, current condition and treatment goals. Many patients begin using botox from their late 20's to early 30's as a preventative measure to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles but we do have patients older than the age's mentioned who have also used our botox treatments here in Royal Oak, Michigan.
How do you sleep after Botox?
Avoid lying down for at least 4 hours after receiving botox injections to avoid pressing on the treated areas. Pressing on the treated areas has the potential for the botox to spread to unintended areas.
What not to eat or drink before Botox?
Patients should avoid consuming alcohol, blood thinning medication or anti-inflammatory type medications for at least 24 hours before receiving any botox treatments.
What not to do right after Botox?
Patients should avoid any physical or strenuous types of activities but also hot baths, and saunas for at least 24 hours after receiving any botox injections.
